Campus landscape could be seen as precious asset that linking people
and place within the campus context. Landscape areas and spaces are
crucial facets in forming to the sense of place, as well as campus’s
identity. It serves as functional components on improving to the
quality of campus life. It provides place for study environment as well
as place for student to escape physically and emotionally from study
pressures.
Campus Landscape Character Assessment is a potential
planning tool to be used with an aim for the creation of sustainable
campus development. Likewise, it forms a primary platform in
classifying, monitoring, and understanding the rhythm of growth within
campus territory. This study focused particularly in assessing UPM
campus landscape on identifying its characters as well as classifying
the Campus Landscape Character Types (CLCT) within the campus region.
It will be conducted based on GIS application as decision supporting
tool in quantitative data. Integration of stakeholders participatory
into the study on addressing the Campus Landscape Character Area (CLCA)
would be another crucial input for the clarification process of
distinct character from UPM context. Ultimately, it is hope that
information generated through the study would encourage collaborative
endeavour of local planners, designers and end users in understanding
and managing to the prudent use the campus landscape resources. It
would be crucial baseline information that contributes in understanding
the campus community needs, as well as sensitivity and changes of
campus context that have influence to the campus development.
